Collective Worship at St Peter’s CE Primary School
At St Peter’s, Collective Worship is the heartbeat of our school - a time for reflection, celebration, and connection. As a Church of England school, our worship is rooted in Christian values and traditions, yet it is also inclusive, invitational and inspiring, welcoming children of all faiths and none.
We are proud of our richly diverse community, including a high number of families from Muslim backgrounds. Our approach to worship reflects this diversity, offering space for all children to feel respected, safe and spiritually nourished.
Our Vision for Worship
Collective Worship at our school:
- Reflects the Christian ethos of love, hope, and compassion.
- Encourages children to explore big questions about life, faith and belonging.
- Celebrates our school shared values across faiths - kindness, belonging, peace and courage.
- Provides opportunities for stillness, prayer, storytelling and song.
- Is inclusive and invitational - children are never required to participate in ways that conflict with their beliefs.
We work closely with our local church and faith leaders to ensure worship is meaningful and respectful. We also mark key festivals from other faith traditions, including Eid, Diwali and Hanukkah, as part of our commitment to building understanding and unity.
A Safe and Sacred Space
Our worship is designed to be:
- Inspirational: helping children reflect on their values and actions.
- Invitational: offering choice and freedom in how children engage.
- Inclusive: recognising and celebrating the beliefs of all our families.
As the Church of England guidance affirms, worship in schools is not about conversion - it is about creating space for spiritual growth, moral reflection and community celebration.
