Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)
Unlocking the potential for everyone to flourish in the love of Christ.
“But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God.” - Psalm 52:8
What is SEND?
At St Peter’s, we support children who may have:
- Greater difficulty learning than others their age.
- A disability that makes learning or accessing school more challenging.
We follow the SEND Code of Practice and aim to provide inclusive, personalised support for every child.
Types of Needs We Support
We support children with a wide range of needs, including:
- Communication & Interaction: Speech and language difficulties, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Cognition & Learning: Dyslexia, dyspraxia, learning at a slower pace.
- Social, Emotional & Mental Health: Anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation difficulties.
- Sensory & Physical Needs: Hearing or vision impairments, physical disabilities.
Our Aims
We want every child to:
- Feel safe, happy, and included.
- Reach their full potential.
- Be supported in a way that suits their individual needs.
We work in partnership with families to ensure the best outcomes for every child.
How We Support Children
We use a Graduated Approach to support children with SEND:
- Assess - We identify any needs early.
- Plan - We create a personalised support plan.
- Do - We put support in place (e.g. interventions, adaptations).
- Review - We check progress and adjust support as needed.
Stage 1: Early Support
- Teachers identify needs and adapt lessons.
- Short-term interventions help children “keep up” or “catch up”.
Stage 2: Targeted Support
- Specialist teachers assess and create action plans.
- Support is personalised and progress is closely monitored.
Stage 3: EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan)
- If needed, we apply for an EHCP with parental support.
- Long-term goals and specialist input guide provision.
Support may include:
- Classroom adaptations.
- Specialist teacher input.
- Educational Psychology assessments.
- Applying for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) if needed.
