Welcome to Year 3!

Welcome to our Year 3 class page! We’re excited to begin a new term filled with curiosity, creativity, and learning. Year 3 is a wonderful time for children to grow in independence, explore new ideas, and build on the strong foundations laid in Key Stage 1.

In our classroom, Mrs. Gardner and Mrs. Khawaja work together to create a safe, supportive, and inspiring space where every child is encouraged to try their best, ask questions, and enjoy the journey of learning.

What We’re Learning

This year, our curriculum is packed with exciting topics that spark imagination and deepen understanding:

  • Local History Inquiry: We explore the fascinating world of Victorian mills, learning how they shaped our community and the lives of people in the past.
  • English: Children write persuasive letters around the theme of climate change, developing their voice as courageous advocates  and learning how writing can make a difference.
  • Geography: We carry out a detailed study of the Lake District, discovering its landscapes, wildlife, and importance as a national park.

PE Information

  • PE lessons take place every Monday and Tuesday.
  • Children must have a full PE kit in school at all times, especially if they attend after-school sports clubs.
  • Please ensure all items are clearly labelled.

Reading Race

Reading is a key part of our daily routine. Here’s how we encourage and celebrate it:

  • Children should bring their home reading book to school every day.
  • We check books daily and add a point to the Reading Race each time they read.
  • Rewards:
    • Bronze badge for 25 reads
    • Silver badge for 75 reads
    • Gold badge for 175 reads

Let’s make reading a joyful habit!

Homework & Online Learning

Children are expected to:

  • Read for 10 minutes daily
  • Practise times tables using:
  • Times Tables Rock Stars
  • Purple Mash

Log-in details are in your child’s reading record. These platforms make learning fun and help build fluency in maths.

Stay in Touch

If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress, please feel free to:

  • Speak to Mrs. Gardner at the end of the day
  • Send a message via Class Dojo

We’re looking forward to a fantastic year of learning and growth in Year 3!
