Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to Year 6 - the final and most exciting chapter of our primary journey! This year is all about deepening our understanding, building independence, and preparing for the transition to secondary school. Building on the rich learning from Year 5, we continue to explore the world around us while growing as confident, curious learners.

In Year 5, we journeyed through the Amazon Rainforest and discovered the vibrant culture and geography of Brazil. Now, in Year 6, we take our learning further by comparing the biomes of Brazil with those found in the UK. Through hands-on investigations, map work, and collaborative projects, children will:

  • Explore temperate and tropical biomes
  • Investigate climate, flora, and fauna differences
  • Understand human impact on ecosystems
  • Present findings through creative writing, art, and digital media

We encourage global awareness and critical thinking, helping children connect local and international environments.

Every two years, our Year 5 and 6 pupils embark on an unforgettable residential trip packed with adventurous activities. From climbing and kayaking to team-building challenges, this experience:

  • Builds resilience and confidence
  • Strengthens friendships and teamwork
  • Encourages independence and problem-solving

It’s a highlight of the Key Stage 2 experience and a memory-maker for life!

SATs Preparation

Year 6 includes focused preparation for the end-of-Key-Stage assessments (SATs). Our approach is supportive and empowering, helping children feel confident and ready:

  • Regular practice in reading, maths, and SPaG
  • Small group booster sessions
  • Mindfulness and wellbeing strategies
  • Celebrating progress and effort

We believe SATs are just one part of a child’s learning journey - and we make sure it’s a positive one.

Transition to Secondary School

As children prepare to move on, we guide them through a thoughtful and supportive transition process:

  • Visits to local secondary schools
  • Transition workshops and Q&A sessions
  • Opportunities to reflect on achievements and goals
  • Building independence and self-advocacy

We work closely with families and secondary schools to ensure every child feels ready and excited for the next step.
