Curriculum Enrichment
At St Peter’s, we believe learning goes far beyond the classroom. Our curriculum enrichment programme is designed to spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and create unforgettable experiences for every child. Here's a glimpse into the exciting opportunities our pupils enjoy:
Residential Adventure at Hothersall Lodge
Our Year 6 pupils embark on a thrilling residential trip to Hothersall Lodge, where they build resilience, teamwork, and independence. Activities include:
- Canoeing and orienteering in the Ribble Valley
- Campfire storytelling and team challenges
- Nature walks and environmental exploration
This trip is a highlight of the year and a wonderful way to prepare for the transition to secondary school.
River Study: Learning in the Wild
As part of our geography curriculum, pupils take part in a River Study. They investigate:
- River features and flow measurement
- Erosion and deposition
- Wildlife habitats and water quality
Hands-on fieldwork helps children connect classroom learning with the natural world around them.
Blackpool Zoo: A Wild Encounter
Our science curriculum comes to life with a visit to Blackpool Zoo, where pupils explore:
- Animal adaptations and habitats
- Conservation and endangered species
- Life cycles and food chains
Children love meeting the animals and learning from expert zookeepers.
Smithills Farm: From Field to Fork
Younger pupils enjoy a day at Smithills Farm, discovering:
- Where food comes from
- Caring for animals
- Seasonal changes and farming life
This trip supports our science and PSHE curriculum, helping children understand sustainability and healthy living.
Exploring Our Local Environment
We make the most of our beautiful surroundings with regular walks and studies in the local environment, including:
- Woodland trails and nature spotting
- Litter-picking and eco-awareness projects
- Mapping and observational drawing
These activities foster a sense of responsibility and pride in our community.
