Sports Grant
The Sports Premium is a government funding initiative aimed at improving the quality of sport and physical education (P.E.) in primary schools. It is jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health, and Culture, Media and Sport, with the funding going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on enhancing P.E. and sport provision for all children.
Purpose of the Sports Premium Funding:
Schools must use the funding to improve their P.E. and sport provision, with freedom to decide how best to do this. The spending must focus on five key areas:
- Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – promoting healthy, active lifestyles.
- Raising the profile of P.E. and sport across the school – using it as a tool for whole-school improvement.
- Increasing confidence, knowledge, and skills of all staff in teaching P.E. and sport.
- Offering a broader experience of a range of sports and activities to all pupils.
- Increasing participation in competitive sport.
Governance and Impact:
- The school governors ensure the funding benefits all children, regardless of sporting ability.
- Opportunities are provided for the most able children to compete in advanced tournaments.
- Staff have access to ongoing training and professional development.
- Resources are invested to provide long-lasting support for high-quality, varied P.E.
- Outdoor opportunities for physical activity are enhanced.
- Staff CPD (Continuing Professional Development) is a key priority to build lasting expertise among staff.
At St Peter's we firmly believe that when children are healthy and active, they are happier and better prepared to learn.
